Who is this blog for?

This blog is for people who struggle with low back pain and need help. It's for people who want more information and better options. I'm speaking to the lost and frustrated people who haven't achieved their desired results.

Why is low back pain such a problem?

Low back pain is one of the most significant causes of disability globally. About 80% of the population will eventually deal with low back pain. Many feel like they don't have control, and some live in fear. They're afraid of the pain, and they're afraid of specific activities that may increase the pain. Many get sold products and services they don't need because feeling fragile and scared influences their decision-making.

What should you expect from chiropractic care?

Based on American Chiropractic Association guidelines: You should receive thorough questioning about your complaint and comprehensive health history, a physical examination, education and encouragement to self-manage, active interventions (exercise, rehab, nutrition, lifestyle modifications) as early as possible, and passive interventions (adjustments, massage) only as adjuncts to evidence-based treatment — not as primary care.

What next?

If you're struggling with low back pain and unsatisfied with your treatment results, use the ACA guidelines to evaluate the quality of your chiropractic care. You deserve better healthcare than treatment plans primarily consisting of spinal manipulation. Spinal manipulation is associated with reduced opioid use and reduced likelihood of surgery — but it should be combined with active care.
